Data Center: Nitrogen Dioxide

Nitrogen Dioxide is a common byproduct of industrial activity and burning. When a hydrocarbon such as petrol in a car or coal in a power plant burns in air, the process combines not only carbon to oxygen in the air, but also nitrogen to oxygen, produces a number of nitrogen-based oxides, including NO2. Natural chemical processes tend to cause nitrogen dioxide to react with other chemicals in the air and unlike many other pollutants, NO2 tends not to travel very far from where it is initially produced. Thus NO2 traces out the sources of many kinds of industrial activity.
