Data Center: Sea Surface Temperature (SST)

The top layer of the Earth's Ocean shows a complex pattern of temperatures. Broad patterns of warmer water in the tropics and cooler towards the poles is complicated by seasonal variations, strong weather events like hurricanes, and global patterns of ocean circulation which bring deep cold water to the surface in places or strong warm water currents in others.
